Chief Drug Dealer at British American Tobacco Australia, Threatens to Cut-Price Fags
According to reports, David Crow, a chief drug dealer at the American Tobacco Australia, has threatened to spread cut price fags in the country, if the government introduces plain packaging for cigarettes.
He expressed that the campaign, which they are willing to spend a lot on, is the only way they can compete with the government as well as fight back. This entails that more people, coupled with children will smoke.
Though the World Health Organization recognizes nicotine as a drug, which is sold legally and responsible for smoking related deaths of around 7500 Australians each year, Crow thinks otherwise and does not see himself as a drug dealer.
Nicola Roxon, the Health Minister, stated that the tobacco companies were only fighting for their own interest, as well as protecting their profits.
Crow further stated that, the government was not certain about the bill and it could backfire on them as well as lead to an increased number of people smoking.
Wayne Swan, Treasurer, Deputy Premier, also was reported to have expressed that though the tobacco companies only wanted to secure their profits, the government’s main motive was to protect the lives of citizens in the country.
