Authorities launch anti-tobacco drive in J&K
PTI | 05:03 PM,Mar 31,2011Srinagar, Mar 31 (PTI) Authorities in Kashmir today launched an anti-tobacco drive and raided shops in the vicinity of schools, confiscating and destroying cigarettes recovered from them."Anti-tobacco squad raided shops selling cigarettes within 100 yards of educational institutions-- Presentation Convent School (Rajbagh), DAV School (Jawahar Nagar), Government Polytechnic for Boys and New Convent School (Gogjibagh)," an official spokesman said.He said the cigarettes were confiscated and destroyed and the shopkeepers were served notices while fines were also imposed.The squad also caught 32 persons smoking in public places and imposed Rs 200 fine on each of them.During the current financial year, anti-smoking squads have recovered an amount of Rs 28,000 persons found smoking in public places in Srinagar City.
