Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) takes stringent action against tobacco advertising
MUMBAI: The BMC on Monday brought down illegal banners advertising tobacco products in 16 wards. A survey conducted by the Salaam Bombay Foundation (SBF) had revealed widespread violation of the law prohibiting point-of-sale tobacco advertising.

The banners atop local shops violated laws under COTPA (Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Acts). Reports on the same have been submitted to the superintendent's office by the NGO after a survey of 24 wards in May revealed the status.
