The government’s decision to return applications for tobacconists’ licenses to those who lost out in the process makes a mockery of freedom of information, LMP co-president András Schiffer declared on Sunday.
The effect of the decision is to make it impossible for anyone to assess whether the bids were awarded according to the official criteria.
Schiffer told a press conference that his party will file a report on suspicion of abuse of data of public interest.
He said LMP will launch on its website a legal aid line for tobacconists and is also asking losing bidders to forward the bids to the party.
Tobacconists whose licenses were not renewed submitted 20,000 signatures to basic rights ombudsman Máté Szabó on Friday, calling for the results of the national tender to be nullified.
