Tesco prosecuted for 'selling tobacco product to underage boy'

The supermarket firm Tesco is being prosecuted for allegedly selling a tobacco product to an underage boy.

On Friday, the case called at Glasgow Sheriff Court where the firm is alleged to have sold a tobacco product or cigarette papers to a 14-year-old in Glasgow.

The Crown alleges that the incident occurred at the Tesco Express branch in Argyle Street on March 5 this year.

Tesco did not enter a plea when the case called at the court, where it was represented by lawyer Ray Gribben.
Sheriff Sean Murphy QC continued the case until next month. It is believed this prosecution is the first of its kind in Scotland.
