Michael R. Bloomberg, the mayor of New York City has announced that last year he endorsed President Obama for re-election largely considering his commitment to putting science and public health before politics.
Mr. Bloomberg states that now the Obama administration appears to be on the verge of bowing to pressure from a powerful special interest group which is the tobacco industry. This move Mr. Bloomberg identifies as a colossal public health mistake and potentially would contribute to the deaths of tens of millions of people around the world.
