VCU gets grant to study novel tobacco products
The claim: Electronic cigarettes aren’t as bad for you as regular cigarettes.
The claim: People who use electronic cigarettes smoke fewer regular cigarettes and so have lower risk of smoking-related cancer.
Truthfully, there isn’t enough data to support either claim, said a Virginia Commonwealth University researcher who is co-leading a five-year, $18.1 million effort to develop ways to evaluate and study claims about so-called “modified risk” tobacco products. The grant funding was announced Thursday.
