In 1998, 22 percent of adults and 27.4 percent of high school students in Florida were current smokers. Think about that — about a quarter of all Floridians over the age of 13 were smokers. Today, 17.7 percent of adults and 8.6 percent of high school students in Florida are current smokers. The numbers reflect a dramatic tide change related to cigarette use in our state and in fact, the nation.
