Tobacco-free policy aimed at education, not punishment
Central Michigan University’s decision to prohibit tobacco use on campus, it appears the measure presents little deterrent to smokers who wish to defy it.
Effective July 1, 2014, the smoke-free policy will be expanded to prohibit all forms of tobacco and e-cigarettes on all university properties. Manager of Employee Health and Wellness Tammy Griffin said the primary emphasis of the policy is on creating a culture of non-smoking at CMU.
