New, tougher tobacco ban for Polk County Schools
Lakeland, Florida - In Polk County schools, a new and much tougher anti-tobacco policy has gone into effect.
The ban extends well-past the school's walls and beyond school hours.
And while its target may be the students, the rules apply to grown-ups too.
The idea of using tobacco in school went up in smoke a long time ago, but Polk County's new rules go way being the halls and walls.
Even outside areas are now off-limits.
No smoking. No dipping. Not even those new electronic cigarettes - anywhere or any time on school property.
"We are taking a stand. We are committed to improving the health of our students and our employees," said the district's health wellness manager, Debbie Zimmerman.
