U.K. to Revisit Standardized Tobacco Packaging

LONDON—The British government said Thursday that it would look again at the case for introducing standardized packaging for tobacco products and make a decision next year following a fresh review of the issue, prompting accusations it was dragging its feet on a matter of public health.

The announcement comes just four months after the government said it was shelving plans to impose standardized packaging for tobacco products because it wanted to see the impact of the measure elsewhere. That decision, which angered antismoking groups, followed a large public consultation in 2012 which found a small majority favored standardized tobacco packaging
