Tobacco Users Could Raise Borough Health Care Costs

The good news. Kittanning Borough is in a position to save $215,000 on healthcare costs next year. The bad news. The rating was based on all workers not using tobacco.

Jim Milliron, a representative from ESS Insurance who brokers the Borough’s coverage, attended the Kittanning Borough Council public meeting last night to give an overview.

Milliron said the problem with shopping insurance companies is that few companies will cover both current employees and retirees. Although the Borough currently has Highmark, Milliron said a savings could be realized by changing to UPMC.
