Menthol cigarettes ARE more addictive than regular tobacco: Scientists find flavoring makes the brain more sensitive to nicotine

It’s known that people who smoke menthol cigarettes smoke more often and are less likely to quit.

Now scientists believe they know why: menthol flavoring changes the brain so it is more sensitive to nicotine.

A study found menthol causes more nicotinic receptors – the parts of the brain sensitive to nicotine - to develop.

Experts says this suggests that menthol might enhance the addictive properties of nicotine, New Scientists reports.
