Newsagents is first Scots shop to be banned from selling tobacco
A small newsagents has become the first shop in Scotland to be banned from selling tobacco under new laws after repeatedly selling cigarettes to minors.
Shriraj Gindha, of Tony's Newsagents in the Torry area of Aberdeen, appeared at the city's Sheriff Court on Tuesday after a civil case was lodged against his business by the council.
Despite a number of warnings from Aberdeen City Council, the shop still persisted in selling cigarettes to underage kids and as a result they have been served with a tobacco banning retail order.
Tony's Newsagents will be prohibited from selling cigarettes, cigars and all forms of tobacco for 12 months.
