Bulgaria busts almost 2 tons of illegal tobacco
Plovdiv. Some 1,800 kilos of tobacco have been confiscated in the frames of a special operation of the State Agency for National Security (SANS) in Bulgaria’s second biggest city of Plovdiv, the press office of SANS announced.
The operation was realized in cooperation with the Interior Ministry and under the management of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office-Plovdiv.
Authorities searched two warehouses and three vehicles in Plovdiv. They found and confiscated 11 cardboard boxes and 2 bags full of cut brown leaves with the characteristic look and smell of tobacco. The total amount of the seized illegal excised product is 1,800 kilos.
According to expert’s analysis, the possible harm that could have been caused to the state budget by unpaid excise duty is estimated at around BGN 260,000.
