Biden wants tobacco prohibited in US trade agreements
Attorney General Beau Biden joined 44 other state attorneys general in signing a letter to exclude tobacco products when negotiating international trade and investment agreements.
Biden says, “Delaware and many other states have taken specific steps to reduce tobacco use, particularly among youth, and we don’t want to threaten the substantial progress those efforts have made in protecting public health."
The letter sent to the U.S. Trade Representative happens during a time when discussions for a multilateral trade and investment agreement among Pacific Rim countries is in progress.
