South Africa: Tobacco Tax Fights Cancer, Heart Disease
Increasing tobacco taxes is the single most powerful way for low- and middle-income countries to reduce deaths and disease from non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cancer and heart disease, according to international experts.
A recent report published in The Lancet, "Global Health 2035: A World Converging within a Generation," focuses on strategies that governments can adopt to make dramatic health gains by 2035 and to reduce the health gap between rich and poor countries.
