City Council may snuff out e-cigarettes
Long Beach may unplug electronic cigarettes. But for now, you can still vape ‘em if you’ve got ‘em.
The pocket-sized devices are currently unregulated in the city, but that may change.
On Tuesday night, the council voted 8-0 to have City Attorney Charles Parkin find ways to amend the City Code to regulate the trendy electronic cigarettes just like traditional tobacco products.
Parkin is expected to consider how the devices are used and sold, and look at how other cities have placed laws on the devices. It eventually could mean that e-cigs would be verboten in designated no-smoking zones, including theaters, restaurants, public facilities, schools and parks, just like regular cigarettes.
