JENNINGS, La. (AP) — The Jefferson Davis Parish Police Jury has unanimously passed an ordinance banning smoking and tobacco use on the grounds of the parish courthouse, annex and voter registrar buildings and related property.
The ban will apply to cigarettes, cigars, pipes and chewing tobacco. Smoking is now prohibited within 25 feet of the courthouse entrance under state law.
The police jury's measure extends the smoke-free environment to apply to the lawns, sidewalks, parking lots and other public areas.
The American Press reports (http://bit.ly/1eOXZNb ) those who violate the policy are subject to a minimum fine of $100.
