Westchester considers raising age to buy tobacco to 19
Following the lead of other downstate counties, Westchester is considering raising the age to buy cigarettes and other tobacco products to 19.
Several Democratic legislators have signed on to the effort, which was initiated by Legislator Catherine Borgia, the Democratic majority leader, and have asked for legislation to be drafted.
"The earlier that you start smoking, the more serious and lifelong the addiction tends to be," Borgia said.
