It's National Non-Smoking Week, and the Canadian Cancer Society in this province is focused on educating the public about the risks associated with tobacco use and advocating for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption.
The Society's Angela Noseworthy says cigarillos, water pipe tobacco, and smokeless tobacco are just a few examples of products that come in flavors that are appealing to youth and designed to get them hooked.
Noseworthy says these products grab the attention of youth and make them more likely to experiment with them. The society has a wide variety of activities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador to educate the public on tobacco use.
Members will be in many schools, malls, and public areas distributing information and giving presentations on lung cancer awareness and smoking cessation.
