NEW DELHI: Delhi's anti-tobacco law is set to get tougher as the government is planning to bring in a fresh notification to plug all the loopholes that led to the poor enforcement of the ban on gutka products notified by the previous dispensation in September 2012.
Sources said that a review of implementation of the ban revealed that it was not effective due to various factors, one of them being lack of clarity about some clauses of the notification.
"Many companies are marketing twin-packs by selling raw tobacco and supari in separate sachets to hoodwink the law. This has defeated the whole purpose of the ban. The new notification will ensure a blanket on all raw chewable tobacco products," said a senior official.
