The Railway police seized around 25,200 sachets of ‘Hans’ — a brand of scented chewing tobacco — from the parcel office at the Kozhikode railway station on Sunday. The product, estimated to cost Rs.2.7 lakh, was found packed in seven big bundles.
Police officers said they examined the bundles under the headship of Principal Sub Inspector V. Rajagopalan following a suspicion raised by the parcel office staff. The consignment was addressed to one ‘Raju’ and was sent directly from Chennai, they said. An officer attached to the Railway police here said a separate investigation was under way into the incident and to trace the person who had made the shipment. — Staff Reporter
