Mayo official says tobacco products should be banned
OCHESTER, Minn. (KFGO AM) -- A new Surgeon General's report, released late last week includes new findings on the health effects of smoking.
Director of Mayo Clinic’s Nicotine Dependence Center, Dr. Richard Hurt says more than 480,000 Americans die from smoking-related causes every year.
Hurt says the report is missing a call to action to end the sale of tobacco products.
He believes these products would never be approved now that more is known about the harm they cause.
Hurt is calling on Congress to have the political will to take on tobacco companies and ramp up regulation of tobacco products.
