Chemung County business cited for tobacco sale to minor

A Chemung County tobacco vendor was recently fined for selling tobacco products to a minor.

On The Way, 102 S. Main Street, Elmira, sold tobacco to a minor during a routine compliance check in April, according to the Chemung County Health Department.

The owner of the business, Aneesha, Inc., declined a stipulation offer of a $550 fine and requested a hearing, the health department said. Following a July 22 hearing in front of the county Board of Health, the business was fined $650.

Compliance checks are conducted annually at every tobacco retailer in Chemung County, the health department said in a news release.
