City Council bans smoking of any kind in city parks

Members of the Frisco city council and Mayor Maher Maso voted to prohibit smoking at the previous council meeting, as defined by city ordinance, of all materials in public parks. The measure passed by a vote of 3-2, with council members Will Sowell and Tim Nelson dissenting.

In March, city council directed staff to prepare an amendment to clarify that smoking is prohibited in public parks. It was determined that amending Chapter 54 of the Code of Ordinances was the most appropriate place to address the issue, and that is what city council did. Two options were provided to city council regarding this matter:

Option 1: To prohibit smoking of all materials as defined in parks.

Option 2: To prohibit the possession of all tobacco products and smoking materials in parks.
